Joel Pasquarelli is a visual artist and scholar from Annapolis, MD working primarily in oil and watercolor. He earned his Bachelors of Fine Art in painting and drawing from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and his Masters of Fine Art with a concentration in painting from Clemson University. His research focuses on the integration of theology and the arts, with particular interests in theories of disenchantment, new materialism and stewardship, and the relationship between visual/material culture and the sacred. He has presented his art historical and theological research both domestically and internationally and has exhibited his artwork in solo and group shows across the east coast.
His current work focuses on the enchantment found within and through experiences of overwhelming presentness within the material world. These paintings are paired with an ongoing research project studying the importance of wonder in producing humility, joy, and meaning.
